Project SAMUS: Prince of the Ruin Storm Part 3

Hey All, Eric here. I am nearing completion on the painting of Samus so I thought I’d do an update.

It’s been super fun working on this project. Working with a new medium (oil) has been much more rewarding than I thought it would be. It actually matches my natural tendencies really well as I love doing really smooth blends in my paint.
In a lot of ways it’s easier than acrylics, because I can work on blending the paints over the course of days instead of trying to mix on the model.

The only thing left is to paint the sword. It’s pretty bland right now. I never feel totally comfortable painting swords for some reason. 🙂

Next up for Samus is basing. I am planning on making it an action scene, I want to recreate the scene in Know No Fear when Samus possesses a Word Bearer commander after he goads an Ultramarine into killing him.

Hope you enjoyed. 🙂

After seeing your basing post, I had to have closer look at your Samus. Beautiful work – before i was on the fence about whether or not to purchase this model for my Word Bearers – now i think your paintjob has convinced me to take the plunge. Looking forward to seeing the final piece!

Thanks for the kind words. 🙂 I was feeling the same way about it, but I loved the character so much from the books that I wanted to give it a shot anyways. I just didn’t like the Khorne red on him since I’ve always seen him as undivided in my mind.
